November 12, 2018 – Be the Best Version of Yourself and Help Others Do the Same

Building+Positive+Emotions+and+Self-Esteem

We support each other most when we help each other become the best version of who God wants us to be. #WisdomHunters
————————————————————————–
I have always been a very self-conscious person. I have never thought highly of myself and it has caused me to act in a way that is not very appealing. Low self-esteem? Been there, done that.

I was always the person who tried to be something that they weren’t just to please someone else or to fit in with a certain group. Granted, I did not do anything illegal or cause harm to anyone but the choices I made were not the best at times. I certainly was not the best version of myself because I did not know who I was. I was never who God wanted me to be. I was who everyone else wanted me to be (at least that is what I thought they wanted me to be).

As you can imagine, being “someone else” and not who God was calling me to be never really fulfilled me. I was still that same person who had no confidence, who was depressed at times, who felt unwanted, unloved, and to be honest, lost. It was when I met my future wife, Lisa, that my life began to change. She brought me back to God and helped me to begin to believe in myself again. To be the best version of myself each and every day.

Was it easy to do? Absolutely not (hard to break old habits) and it took many, many years to become the person I confidently look at today. I am confident that the Lord placed Lisa in my life to help me in my conversion; conversion of self and reaffirmation of faith.

Like me, are you too conflicted over being who someone else wants you to be, versus being who God desires you to be? Futility and frustration are the bad fruit of attempting to fulfill another’s demanding expectations of you. You may meet one of their milestones, then they raise the bar to a higher level. Thankfully, fulfillment and joy are the good fruit of resting in the Lord’s expectations for your life. What does Christ require of you? Waiting and resting may be the remedy the Spirit has for you in contrast to the flesh’s propensity to strive out of fear. God’s will is not forced but flows out of His desire for you and others to grow more like Jesus.

But you are “a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people of his own, so that you may announce the praises” of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. – 1 Peter 2:9

God has called us to be who He wants us to be not who we think we should be or someone else thinks we should be. We are beloved sons and daughters of Christ, made in His image. He wants us to be the best version of ourselves and to live our lives according to His plan and not others.

Many of us never have someone come into our lives as I did that can help us to become that better person, a more fulfilled person, a more grateful person for all of the gifts that He has bestowed on us. As servants of God, we MUST be Christ for others. We must help them see the best of themselves, never allowing others to debase them or make them into something they truly were not meant to be. We support each other most when we help each other become the best version of who God wants us to be.

Peace and Blessings.
